Al Simon lives in Village Hill in Ward 2 of Northampton with his wife Dr. Nilanjana (Buju) Dasgupta and their two cats, Persis and Adore. They moved to Northampton from Windsor CT in 2019. Al & Buju have two grown children, a son-in-law, and a wonderful grandson.
Al finished his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts’ University Without Walls Program graduating in May 2021 at the age of 61. As a first generation college student, born to working-class parents who didn’t finish high school, he took a non-traditional path in life. Al credits his primary and secondary education in public school as giving him a fighting chance in life. People who came before him, who he didn’t know, paid for his public education. He feels the same responsibility for Northampton’s children.
Professionally, Al was in the car business for 30 years, working in sales, service, business development, and marketing for American Honda, a regional auto dealership group, and later launched his own business development consulting company, which lasted until the pandemic.
Process improvement, problem solving, and effective communication are three of his core strengths. And continuous improvement is his motto. Al likes to solve problems!
